HIPAA Privacy & Security Services
The HIPAA Privacy and Security assessment is to include the reasonable identification of risks that may result in the improper use or disclosure of patient information (protected health information, or “PHI”), or its loss or corruption. The assessment should culminate in a high-level plan and strategy, including general cost estimates, to guide the customer in its subsequent efforts to assure compliance and minimize risk (to a level appropriate for its size, complexity, and circumstance).
A HIPAA Security Standard requirement is for healthcare organizations to have in place a contingency and disaster recovery plan to respond to emergencies that may result in damage to electronic PHI, including a disaster recovery plan, contingency operations procedures and emergency access procedures. More importantly, having in place an effective plan to assure the continued availability of critical information systems is a sound business practice and further promotes patient care and safety.
